Hedge & Shrub Removal in Beaumont, TX
Southeast Texas grows hedges the way it grows everything — relentlessly. A row of wax myrtle or ligustrum planted “low maintenance” in 1998 is now a fifteen-foot green wall swallowing the front windows, and the only honest way out is digging it up by the roots. We remove hedges and overgrown foundation plantings the hard way — whole root balls out of the ground — so they don’t come back, and so your yard is actually ready for whatever you plant next.
Why Hedges Come Out Harder Than They Look
A hedge is not one plant; it’s twenty plants fused into a wall, and after twenty-five Beaumont growing seasons the root mass under a typical row is impressive. Beaumont’s gumbo makes it worse: heavy clay holds roots like concrete grips rebar. Cutting the tops off and leaving the roots — the “mow it flat and hope” method — buys you a decade of shooting suckers and soft, sunken ground where the row used to be. We do it properly:
Extraction, Grinding, and Bed Regrade
- Cut and extract. Tops come off first and get chipped; then we dig or pull each root ball with equipment sized to the job.
- Root-grinding for stubborn stumps. Old ligustrum and wax myrtle roots regenerate from every fragment. Where regrowth would be a problem — near beds, pools, and foundations — we grind the row stumps after extraction.
- Bed cleanup and regrade. Old mulch, weed fabric, and root mat come out; the bed is raked and regraded so it sheds water instead of pooling against the slab. Add stump grinding anywhere the hedge grew into an old tree line.
Debris Off the Property
- Debris off the property. Everything hauled or chipped on site — your call — so the job ends clean, not at the curb waiting on city pickup.
The Hedges We Remove Most Around Here
Ligustrum and Wax Myrtle
- Ligustrum (privet) rows. Fast, dense, everywhere in older Beaumont neighborhoods — and invasive in the understory if you let berries drop. Full extraction recommended.
- Wax myrtle walls. Gulf Coast native, so it regrows from roots with a vengeance. We grind or fully excavate the root line.
Azalea Beds and Foundation Plantings
- Overgrown azalea and camellia beds. Not always a removal — sometimes a hard rejuvenation prune saves them. We’ll tell you straight which it is.
- Foundation junipers and “builder special” plantings. The ten plants-against-the-slab look from every 1985 build. They trap moisture against brick, invite termites, and hide weep holes. Out they come.
- Bamboo. The hardest removal in horticulture — rhizome running meters underground. We dig containment trenches and remove rhizome systematically; anyone who promises bamboo removal in one cheap visit is selling you a regrowth warranty you’ll be using.
After the Removal: What Goes Back
Most hedge-removal customers want something better in the same bed, and this is where a free estimate becomes a plan. We’ll talk sight lines, sun exposure, drainage, and what actually behaves in our climate — dwarf yaupon holly trimmed as a formal edge, a crape myrtle screen for summer color, or a proper mixed bed of Gulf Coast natives that needs a fraction of the trimming. If you’d rather keep it simple, we’ll leave the bed clean and mulched and ready for sod, gravel, or a garden. See tree planting for what we install.
